Faced with the prospect of missing a family flight back to Switzerland as his taxi journey to the airport became bogged down in traffic, Michael Schumacher is reported to have taken the decision that all self-respecting former F1 World Champions have to take: I`ll drive.


According to reports, Schumacher took the wheel last week when he realised that he was likely to miss a flight out of Germany.


Cabbie Tuncer Yilmaz took the role of passenger as Schumacher explored the full capabilities of his Opel Vivaro (top speed163kmh/101mph).


"It was crazy having Schumi driving, with me in the passenger seat," the taxi driver told the German press.


"He drove at full throttle around the corners and overtook in some unbelievable places."


Arriving at the airport in good time for the flight, Schumi is then said to have rewarded the stunned cabbie with a 100 euro tip.
