Lithuania A6 Kaunas - Lithuania A6 Zarasai

28. Marts 2011, 13:43

I drive a w202 c230k from London UK to Moscow, Russia every year for the holidays.

Last year there was alot of road construction between Kaunas and Zarasai which made my journey very slow. Does anyone know WHEN this construction will FINISH?
I am travelling in July 2011.

My experience of Terehova border crossing was better in 2010 with no long delays. Thanks to information from forum member.

Also in 2010 I stayed in a hotel in Rezekne "Kolonna" which was nice but no airconditioning and lots of hungry mosquitos. I need a better hotel in this area. Does any forum member have any suggestions?

Finally, I would like to stay a few days in Latvia on the journey back from Moscow to London. Which places do forum members recommend me to visit?

Regards

Les

Of Lübeck (Travemünde) better get on the ferry to Ventspils. Euro 100 per car and one passenger. More and 4 times to feed. Once again you do not see Poland, although the roads they are much better. At the same time you see a beautiful city of Ventspils!

Thank you for all the replies.
I guess Ventspils and Riga Old Town are now on my list of places.
The ferry Lubeck-Ventspils is a nice option but we will see as I generally visit friends in Frankfurt-am-Main which is much further south.
The news about "Kolonna" not good but not unexpected. To be fair there is nothing wrong with the hotel - quiet, clean, polite babushka at the front desk and nice restaurant - much better than soviet style big hotel up the road. Only negative mosquitoes and no air conditioning.
Hotel recommendations for Riga would be nice for the old town.
There must be car parking!

Any news about the A6?

I will write up a journey report in the summer as I go along.

jesus, no no no :shura:

depends on budget, but for about 50-60eur i could suggest Tallink or Avalon hotel, both are 4* hotels with underground parking for additional charge (approx. 9eur)
the rooms in Avalon are a bit bigger, them both are pretty fresh modern hotels, Tallink is less than year, avalon is older
avalon is in the old town, tallink is 7min walk
both have air conditioning and free Wi-Fi
